Masonite is a hard wood board that is 3.2mm &4.8mm thick. It is made from steamed wood chips that are thinned and pressed with high amounts of pressure to form thin wood sheets. Masonite is very smooth on one side and rough on the other. Don't let the low price fool you into thinking masonite is for "cheap" artists, as many paintings composed by the Group of Seven were done on masonite; for it is very light and extremly resistant to warps and chips.
